Hunt, who served as Alabama's governor from 1987-1993, was a Holly Pond native and Holly Pond High School graduate. Before being elected governor, he served as probate judge of Cullman County. He died in 2009 after a battle with cancer.

Hunt grew up on a farm near Holly Pond and graduated from Holly Pond High School. He served as probate judge of Cullman County before being elected governor in 1986. He was Alabama's first Republican governor since Reconstruction.
